Luxury Vehicle FAQ
Click on the following FAQs to see what considerations need to be taken with Luxury Vehicles.
-
Can you perform the regular maintenance services on my Luxury Vehicle?
In Short, Yes. At Robinson Automotive we have the Factory Service Manuals, Schedules, Factory Approved Fluids, and the Computerized Equipment necessary to work on your vehicle. This includes the knowledge and the equipment to turn off those annoying “Service Vehicle” Lamps and messages, even on current model year vehicles.
A good example of the necessary tools needed for luxury cars can be seen in their fluid and filter requirements. Here at Robinson Automotive we keep all the necessary OEM approved fluids for your vehicle so you can rest assured your Warranty and your vehicle stay in good shape.
A small example of what we keep on hand to service your vehicle properly includes:
Mercedes 229.5 and 229.3 Fluids
Mercedes 722.9 Transmission Fluids
Mercedes Add-Blu Additive
BMW LL-01 and LL-04 Fluids
BMW LSD and Non-LSD Fluids
Audi 502.00, 504.00, 505.00 and 507.00 Fluids
Audi Getribeol (Gear Oil)
Jaguar SAF-XJ Fluids
GM 6094M and Corvette Approved Fluids
Using the Factory approved fluids allows us to give your vehicle the best service possible, maintain your factory warranty and as always give you the best value for your money. -
Do I need to take my Luxury vehicle to the dealer to maintain my warranty?
No! You do not have to take your car to the dealer to maintain your warranty!
You DO NOT have to take you car back to the dealer in order to keep your warranty valid. It is in fact illegal for the dealer to tell you that. The owner’s manual spells out the maintenance required to maintain your warranty. As long as you follow the schedule in the owner’s manual for oil change intervals and other required service, the manufacturer cannot deny a warranty claim based on the work being done elsewhere. That is the law.
Many dealers have their own maintenance schedules that include services that are not required by the manufacturer. These services may include such things as fuel additives, engine oil additives, power steering fluid additives, and transmission fluid additives. Look at the owner’s manual and compare the dealer’s maintenance schedule to the one in your owner’s manual. If items appear in the dealer’s schedule that are not in the owner’s manual, that service is not required to maintain your warranty.

What are a few examples of items to be watch out for in the service of my Luxury Vehicle?
Luxury vehicles often require very specialized service to keep them running well. One of the most common items we see is fluid requirements. At Robinson Automotive we keep over one dozen different types of engine oil in stock all meeting the specific requirements of different vehicles.
Oil Filters are also a great example. Using a non-approved engine oil filter in a Mercedes-Benz will damage your engine and void your warranty. What makes this a significant problem is that only 1 out of the 20 or so filters made actually meets the correct specifications.
This is why it is imperative to use someone that knows what they are doing and knows the in-depth requirements of your vehicle. A good shop should be able to identify the fluid and filter requirements for your vehicle, be able to reset the maintenance reminders and be able to program the vehicle’s computer when changes are made.
Almost all Luxury Vehicles now have an internal registry with your maintenance profile on it. It is the job of the servicing shop to update that registry so the vehicle knows how to respond. A good example of this is can be found in many of the BMW i-Drive models (E96, E46, E66, E60). These vehicles require the maintenance registry to be updated when the battery is replaced, the spark plugs replaced or any other maintenance performed. Failing to do the maintenance properly will cause the vehicle to operate incorrectly and disrupt the on-board maintenance computer’s operation.
